Teeth Whitening – Be careful!
Humanity once came to the conclusion that teeth are not just a tool for chewing food or a formidable weapon in defense against enemies, but a rather important part of the face that, with good care, becomes attractive. Brushing your teeth daily has become a steady habit, but for the 21st century this is no longer enough and now everyone is dreaming of a white-toothed smile. To smile beautifully has become an art. Strong white teeth are a sign of well-being, self-confidence, prosperity, good taste and a healthy lifestyle.
They tried to do teeth whitening even under Peter I – they brushed their teeth with ground chalk or charcoal. But even then, white healthy teeth were an indicative factor for the boyars and princes. Later, bleaching took place with the help of various acids, chlorine, ammonia, oxalic acid – these are dangerous substances for the body, so they were used with the greatest precautions, and then completely stopped.
In 1884, bleaching with hydrogen peroxide appeared and is still in use today. Peroxide proved to be the safest and most effective whitening method. Getting on the enamel, peroxide forms active ions, which penetrate the structure of the tooth and destroy the pigment. Now teeth whitening has gained worldwide popularity and many dental clinics have achieved great success in this.
But do not forget that the whitening procedure is the effect of aggressive substances that, to one degree or another, take away useful trace elements from us and make tooth enamel fragile. The main thing is to properly observe the concentration of the drug and the time of its use, clearly follow the recommendations of the dentist. Seals that are installed long ago, a week or two after the procedure, need to be replaced with whiter ones.
Hygienists do not recommend frequent use of whitening, unfortunately, because with frequent repetitions of the procedure, the tooth enamel gradually becomes thinner, which ultimately leads to caries and tooth decay.
Each person is individual. The color of tooth enamel also does not repeat. Hue may depend on:
genetic factors (heredity)
from the harmful effects of antibiotics (tetracycline group)
from eating foods with food colors (tea, coffee, chocolate, cigarettes, drinks, sweets, etc.)
from fluorosis (oversaturation of the body with fluoride, usually from drinking water).
There are 5 methods of teeth whitening in our time:
Office (cabinet) is usually in a clinic using laser or plasma technologies. (35-50% peroxide is used – for 8-12 shades). Effect of 5 years.
Homemade – an individual plastic mouthguard with whitening gel is used. Concentration is prescribed by the doctor. (10% peroxide). The effect of 1-2 years.
Integrated – office and home together. With complicated darkening.
Endodontic – whitening of “dead teeth”. Due to complicated caries.
White strips whitening strips – effect 3-5 days. (Only in the smile zone)
The remaining products sold in pharmacies (toothpastes, chewing gums, whitening gels) produce a small and short-lived effect, mainly removing the bad breath and plaque.
In the pursuit of a pearl gleam of teeth, do not overdo it and remember that the true beauty of a person is not only in his smile.
